Batur Global Geopark That Make Us Proud

This sacred volcano has been designated as global geopark by UNESCO on September 20, 2012. Which means that this mountain is a geological heritage site and protected area. Furthermore, this region got sustainable development in the fields of education, science, and aesthetics in order to deliver it into an international geosite. Indeed, we should be proud of this.

Batur global geopark not only Mount Batur, but also the caldera and the lake. That’s why all the tour packages to the Batur Global Geopark cover these three places. Batur global geopark is also known as Earth Park or Taman Bumi.

Batur global geopark is located norteast of Bali Island. It precisely located in Kintamani village, Bangli district, Bali. If you depart from Denpasar, then you will travel for 65 kilometers to the starting point of Mount Batur trekking. And if you arrive at Ngurah Rai International airport, then you go directly to the starting point of Mount Batur trekking, so you will travel for 79 kilometers.

Mount Batur Trekking

Mount Batur is one of the tourist destinations in Batur global geopark. It has the height of 1771 meters above the sea level. It is not too high. Even the height is no more than the half height of Mount Rinjani.

Although Mount Batur is not too high, it doesn’t mean the Mount Batur trekking can be underestimated. Steep, slippery, rocky, and sandy tracks often make it difficult for the visitors to climb. Especially when it is cloudy and windy. Next, it will be usually followed by darkened sky. Then, it shall rain. The atmosphere of the trekking must have been tense. The Mount Batur trekking is passing through two main routes. It is through Pura Jati Luhur or Toya Bungkah village. You can choose the easiest route you can afford. Most of the tourists preferred to choose Toya Bungkah village. Maybe because this village is quite close to Mount Batur.

  • Toya Bungkah Route

Toya Bungkah village is in Kintamani. It is near Lake Batur. From Lake Batur, you just follow the road until you meet the T-junction. Next, just turn left. Then, you will pass through the rocky road. The rocks came from the eruption of Mount Batur. So, you have arrived at Toya Bungkah village.

In this starting point, you will meet some climbers at the basecamp. In weekdays, Mount Batur is usually visited by many foreign tourists. Meanwhile, the local tourists usually climb Mount Batur on the weekends.

  • Pura Jati Luhur

Pura Jati Luhur is located on Jalan Pendakian, Gunung Batur, Batur Tengah, Kintamani. This is the gate of Mount Batur trekking. Each visitor will be charged an entrance fee for Rp 100,000.00. If you choose to use a guide, you have to pay for around 500 thousand rupiahs.

You will go to the first peak from Pura Jati Luhur for about one or two hours. The condition of the track is sandy, rocky, and slippery. The track is increasingly slippery and steep meters to meters. Although the track is quite hard, but in the end you will have a big smile when you arrive at the top of the mountain.

Just imagine the beautiful yellowish sunrise at the top of Mount Batur. Surely, a hard climbing will feel lighter.

Preparation Before Mount Batur Trekking

Every preparation seems too cliche. Yet, it’s the point to know about yourself. By the time you prepare everything to climb up Mount Batur, it is the moment to know how meticulous and or careless you are.

Preparation before Mount Batur trekking must be prepared carefully. It can’t be suddenly and in a jiffy prepared. You must take care of it by weeks or months or a year before. Because you will hike for a mountain where it is not your usual path or journey you go through everyday. If something bad happens, you cannot easily find help. Yeah, maybe other climbers will take care of you as they have a big heart and tight solidarity. But, it will be good if you prepare yoursel to minimize or avoid something bad happen. Like crampy legs, fatigue, cold, hunger, until get lost.

The preparation you need to do includes:

  • Travel information such as accommodation, hotel or motel, the track of climbing, the fare you spent there, until the history background of the mountain.
  • Trekking route determination. For the climbing groups that go hiking by themselves, they must determine which starting point they want to follow. Is it through Toya Bungkah village or Pura Jati Luhur. Only one voice for all. It will be easier if you use travel services that its speciality in Mount Batur trekking.
  • Mental and physical preparation. This is no less important than other preparations. Make sure you are ready to leave. When you’re ready, it means, you are physically strong, no doubt at all, no burden is brought during the trekking, sleep enough, exercise enough, and the most important is how you keep yourself not to talk and to do something prohibited there.
